From the get go, it was clear the Mens Sprints at Lausanne 2020 was going to be a tight competition.

Athletes from Sweden, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Russia, Estonia, France and Norway all posted strong qualification times leading into the heats. Throughout the heats the race brought all the drama of a good Sprint. Stratergies varied with some choosing to attack from the start and others biding their time until the last meters. Some athletes unfortunately came unstuck altogether with the course proving to be technical even for the best.

When all was said and done in the heats its was down to 6 in the final. As the starters gun went off it was Swedens Edvin Anger who lead out the group. Following a silver medal in the mens Cross-Country Cross on Saturday, Anger showed no signs of fatigue. But his job was not going to be easy. Norways power twins Nikolai and Aleksander Holmboe had Ervin firmly in their sights. The duo weaved in and out of the crowd and on the final turn set themselves up for a full sprint to the finish. The three men rounded the corner and race was on. Nikolai and Aleksander dug deep pressuring Anger. But Anger did not let pressure get to him. He mainted his lead and crossed the line in first with Nikolai in second and Aleksander in third respectively.

Anger said "It feels really good to go from silver yesterday to gold today. But it was a really hard, long day. You must know how to relax [in between]."

Nikolai Holmboe added “The final, everyone went fast so it was hard in the last hill. Edvin was strong today and I couldn’t beat him.”
