Paal Golberg stunned about Ski Tour 2020 victory
Feb 23, 2020·Cross-CountryFor the mens 30km C the snow picked up in the Granåsen stadium. Snow conditions quickly became the game changer for the last competition of the Ski Tour 2020.
Alexander Bolshunov started with a margin of 34 seconds. 4km into the race, successor Paal Golberg caught up and took the lead. One minute after the leading duo, the following group of 6 Norwegians had closed the gap and were led by Martin Loewstroem Nyenget. Emil Iversen (NOR) and Dario Cologna (SUI) completed the top-10 ranking in the first third of the race. Iivo Niskanen (FIN) who started 4 mins behind Bolshunov showed a strong performance and soon caught up and overpassed Cologna.
In the front, Paal Golberg strongly led by himself. Alexander Bolshunov struggled to keep up with the snow conditions and was caught by the Norwegian chasing group.
Goldberg pushed through to the end and finished the 30km C with a time of 1:23:51, 28 seconds before second ranked Simen Hegstad Krüger and third ranked Hans Christer Holund. Emil Iversen missed the podium by 2 seconds and takes the fourth rank in the final Ski Tour 2020 ranking but raced the fastest time of the day and thus gets the title of winner of the day. Martin Loewstroem Nyenget and Johannes Høsflot Klæbo follow on the ranks 5 and 6. Klæbo ensures himself the point standing lead. Alexander Bolshunov showed a strong performance despite struggling with his equipment and the snow conditions. Nevertheless, he ends the race on the 7th position, followed by Iivo Niskanen, Sjur Roethe and Dario Cologna.
