Snow conditions in the Lugnet ski stadium in Falun (SWE) turned to become slower than the mens race in the morning. This turned out to be ideal for the 10km F mass start.

Current Overall World Cup leader Therese Johaug had set her plans for the challenging course: "It was tough conditions and of course with a Mass start in Skating it’s not my favourite but I think the tracks were so slow and it was better than I had expected it."

Right from the start, the trio of Johaug, Andersson and Heidi Weng set out for the top spots. Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen and Frida Karlsson were on the hunt but lost the contact to the trio. Therese Johaug for once could not get quite away from Ebba Andersson who was determined to keep her position. Entering the final lap, Heidi Weng fell back and so the competition for the victory was between Johaug and Andersson. With some remaining power, Therese Johaug set off in the climbs of the sprint hills and ensured her 11th victory in this season. A record number of victories in individual distance competitions that only herself has achieved before in the season 2015/16.

The cheering Swedish crowd followed Ebba Andersson as she crossed the finish line in second position before third placed Heidi Weng.

"It was a tough fight with Ebba but I had some extra speed for the final lap so I had decided to just push out to the last one and so I got a gap to Ebba and Heidi. I knew that the sprint hill will be really important so I had some extra speed there to keep this gap to Ebba. It was tough conditions and of course with a Mass start in Skating it’s not my favourite but I think the tracks were so slow and it was better than I had expected it."Therese Johaug

An impressive first international World Cup appearance was shown by 18 year-old Helene Marie Fossesholm from Norway. The rookie had previousely only participated in the World Cup in Lillehammer in the Skiathlon.

"It was great fun to race my first international World Cup competition. The course in Falun demanded a lot of technical skills so for me that is pretty good because I like courses with steep downhills. With the starting number 39 so I knew that if I wanted a chance I had to try to pass where it was possible and to go fast in the downhills and all worked out well."Helene Marie Fossesholm
