On the fifth day of the JWSC 2020 spectators filled up the race course around the Fichtelberg again. The day started with the juniors and the distance race over 15 km. From the mass start of the huge field of starters, 18-year-old Helene Marie Fossesholm took the lead directly and kept it confidently to the finish. With a lead of + 1’09.3, the Norwegian won her third gold medal and the second during the JWSC 2020 in Oberwiesenthal. "It was a perfect day. My skis were good, I was in good shape, everything went great. I wanted to keep my time every lap and I did it. The spectators cheered us on and it was really great and fun. ”

It is also not the first medal for the runner-up Izabela Marcisz. The Polish woman has already been on the podium twice in Oberwiesenthal and today took home her third medal. "I still can't believe that. You can't dream it that beautiful. This is my third medal and I have set a new record in my country, because so far no Polish woman has managed it. I'm so happy."

Siri Wigger is also no unknown face in the JWSC 2020. The Swiss won her second medal with bronze today and she is also overjoyed. "I am very happy about the second medal. I like the distance races. I trusted my skis and wanted to give everything. Today was just great. The best winter sports conditions prevailed. ”

Also the men delivered an exciting race from start to finish today. The top group, to which the German Friedrich Moch belonged, was able to break away halfway through the race. Friedrich Moch attacked on the penultimate round and fled to the front, but on the last climb to the cross-country bridge, the Norwegian Iver Tildheim Andersen had caught up with him. At the foot of the bridge, Andersen was not quite sure and asked Moch if it was really the last lap. Then he passed the 19-year-old from WSC Isny and got his first gold medal. “I've been waiting for a gold medal for maybe two years. So of course I'm very happy. The conditions today were perfect for a long-distance race. ”

For Friedrich Moch it is the second silver medal of this junior world championship. “I'm a little bit disappointed because I've been in the lead for so long, but of course it's still great to take precious metals home with me. On Monday there was the first silver medal and now again. I tried to enjoy every moment and the people on the track really motivated and supported me. I hope we can take another medal on Friday. ”

The fight for third place was tough today and only shortly before the finish line it was decided between the gold medal winner from the sprint competition, Gus Schumacher (USA), the bronze medal winner Davide Graz (ITA) and the Norwegian Martin Kirchberg Moerk, who won emerged from this struggle and received his first medal. "I didn't really expect a medal. My goal was actually to get into the top 5. To be able to take home a medal is simply incredible and I am very happy. ”
