It was a turbulent race in the Womens Cross-Country Relay run over 4 x 3.3 km. A safe victory for Poland and second place for Germany were shattered by the disqualification of the two teams, as the skating runners had made the wrong turn on the classic lap. Team Switzerland emerged as the winner. Surprisingly, Norway did not make it onto the podium.

There were many tears in the finish line of the women's relay today when it became clear that neither Poland nor Germany would take precious metals home. The faces of the Swiss Nadja KAELIN, Siri WIGGER, Anja WEBER and Anja LOZZA were all the happier because they will leave Oberwiesenthal with a gold medal in the relay over 4 x 3.3 km. “When we crossed the finish line, we already knew that we had won gold. Nobody had overtaken us at the finish line and we knew that something went wrong. But we didn't expect gold. Of course we hoped for a medal, but we didn't expect it to be gold, so we're all the happier. ”

The silver medal went to the US team around Sydney PALMER-LEGER, Kendall KRAMER, Sophia LAUKLI, Novie MCCABE. “When Sophia came in, we asked her if she fell during her race because the German had caught up so quickly. That was not the case and no one had overtaken her and yet the German was in front of her and we knew that something was wrong. Then we realized that a medal is possible and gave everything again. We are very happy about the silver medal. "

Bronze went to the juniors Tilde BAANGMAN, Maerta ROSENBERG, Tove ERICSSON and Louise LINDSTROEM from Sweden. The Swedes were able to convince with their performances in the individual runs of the last few days and are now taking a medal with them as a team. “At first we didn't know what was going on and whether we had the medal or not, and then we found out that there were disqualifications and we are overjoyed with this medal. It was our goal to be on the podium and we owe it to our technicians today in the difficult conditions. We had perfect skis today. ”

In the men's relay race over 4 x 5 km, Team USA was able to confidently defend the title from last year and the team, consisting of Luke JAGER, Ben OGDEN, Johnny HAGENBUCH and gold medalist Gus SCHUMACHER, took home another gold medal. “Of course we wanted the gold medal, but you never know what will happen beforehand. We tried to take it slow, but it went great from the start. The conditions were pretty difficult today. It rained, then snowed. But we had perfect skis and are now taking the gold medal home with us. ”

Happy faces were also seen today in the Canadian team of juniors. Neither Xavier MCKEEVER, Olivier LEVEILLE, Thomas STEPHEN and Remi DROLET had expected the silver medal. In Lahti in 2019, the Canadians were only eleventh. "It feels so great. We are all so happy. We did not expect the medal and just wanted to be there and fight. We are a very young team. For us, this silver medal is very special, especially since the conditions were not so optimal. Therefore, we would like to thank our technicians again. "

The bronze medal went to the team from Italy. The joy of Michele GASPERI, Davide GRAZ, Giovanni TICCO and Francesco MANZONI could be heard loudly at the finish. "We feel great. When we saw our teammate 'Ceco' Manzoni finish, it was an incredible feeling. We worked hard for this moment and grew not only as a team but also as friends. That makes the medal even more special for us."
