Louise Lindstroem (SWE) and Ansgar Evensen (NOR) win the first medals of the Nordic Junior World Championships 2020 in Oberwiesenthal (GER). Lindstroem prevailed in the junior sprint ahead of Polish Izabela Marcisz and Swiss Siri Wigger. Ansgar Evensen (NOR) won his first Junior World Championship title in the sprint final. Valerio Grond (SUI) finished second, Maxim Cervinka (GER) third, winning the first medal for the host country of the JWSC 2020.

It is the first medal on the international stage for the young Swede Lindstroem. Louise Lindstroem always qualified in the heats behind the Norwegian Fossesholm, who races the fastest time in qualification too. In the final, she was denied any chance of a medal due to a fall.

“I had a good day on the track today and felt good. Taking the victory is incredible."Louise Lindstroem

Izabela Marcisz was very surprised by her second place in the sprint: "It was the first time that I had a good sprint result." So far, in the junior classifications she achieved her best results in the distance competitions.

For Siri Wigger, third placed at the Junior World Championships her ranking is her second highlight of the current season. At the Youth Olympic Games 2020 in Lausanne, she was crowned youth Olympic sprint winner. "It was a tough race, but I like the conditions here and the track," stated Wigger after the competition.

After his second place at the JWSC in Lahti 2019, Ansgar Evensen (NOR) became the Sprint King of Oberwiesenthal's first Cross-Country competition. After a second place in the prologue and victories in his heats, he stormed away from his rivals in the final. Second-placed got Valerio Grond from Switzerland who already won bronze at the JWSC 2018 in Goms (SUI).

Local hero and Wahl-Oberwiesenthaler Maxim Cervinka (GER) thrilled the spectators in the Sparkassen-Skiarena. In the finals, he took the third place in front of the numerous spectators and thus the first World Cup medal for Germany: “It was a great atmosphere on the last climb. The people supported us incredibly well on the track. But it was a very tough fight in the last few meters and I am happy that I can take the medal home with me. ”

On Sunday, the U23 Sprints are planned which you can follow live via the live stream by clicking here.
