Therese Johaug stays in charge of the Tour de Ski
Dec 31, 2019·Cross-CountryNo other than Therese Johaug set the pace in todays 10km F. However, Johaug had to fight for her win and crossed the finish line only just 0.7 seconds before Ingvild Flugstad Østberg, also from Norway.
Ingvild surprised herself today: "I was not expecting to come back in such a great shape and I get a better feeling the more I get to compete again." Flugstad Østberg did not compete in the first period of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup due to medical reasons. Being able to chase Therese with such a tight gap energizes the Tour de Ski winner of the past edition 2018/19. As tomorrows pursuit starting order is based upon todays results, Østberg will basically start evenly with Johaug and hopes that they can push each other throughout the competition.
Third placed Ebba Andersson will have to close a 10.2 second gap to the leaders and will be closely chased by Heidi Weng who missed the podium by only 0.3 seconds today!
The top-9 finishers of today will all start within the first 45 seconds behind Johaug in tomorrows pursuit. This also includes the triple of Jessica Diggins, Sadie Maubet Bjornsen and Rosie Brennan from Team USA, who have been performing in top positions in distance races since the beginning of this World Cup season 2019/20.
With her 16th place today, Anamarija Lamic from Slovenia defeated her red point leader BIB 2 points ahead of Jessica Diggins and 8 points before Therese Johaug.
Fingers crossed for spectacular pursuit competitions on the tracks of Toblach!
