Early birds: where to ski in autumn

Autumn is the time to transition from Roller Skiing and field excercises to training sessions back on snow. Internationally, more Cross-Country skiing destinations evaluate possibilities how to offer Cross-Country skiing already in early season. The northern countries benefit from the early cold temperatures and many stations opened up outdoors facilities thanks to snowfarming and early snow production. National teams often seized the opportunities to train on glaciers and facilities like ski tunnels to test their performances on snow.

Infrastuctures around the globe have opened their facilities with respectively strict health concepts and teams have started to get back on the snow. This article features some of the Cross-Country infrastructure featuring early season training possibilities.

Flüela Loipe Davos, Switzerland
The Flüela valley offers fantastic conditions for crispy clear snow tracks and snow farming. Besides Switzerlands snow farming research center, the 4km long course is situated clearly in one of the best spots of the region. The Snowfarming track in Davos is open from 31st October 2020.  Find out all information about the course here.

Vuokatti, Finland
World class atheltes such as Iivo Niskanen, Anne Kyloennen and Ristomatti Hakola belong to Vuokattis Top team. The place offers 365-days training conditions on the 2.4km snow course at the stations own ski tunnel. Every year on the 10th October, the oudoors snow tracks of Vuokatti open at 10am. Check out the Cross-Country ski offers here.

Levi, Finland
Winter arrives early above the polar circle and thus, the ski station of Levi opened it's autumn Cross-Country possibilities already early in October too. Find all information on Cross-Country courses in Levi here.

Vålådalen Fjällstation, Sweden
This years autumn training station of the Swedish Ski team is located c. 50km south from the resort of Åre. With courses of 3km prepared with a Classic and one Skating track, the station offers best training conditions. Find more information about Vålådalen here.

Bruksvallarna, Sweden
Bruksvallarna is one of Sweden's most snow secure resorts overall and openend 6km skiing tracks mid October already. Check out the pre-season offers here.      

Sjusjøn, Norway
At the end of October, the Norwegians worldclass destination for Cross-Country skiing will open a course at the Natrudstilen stadium which will be groomed in Freestyle technique. More information here.

Frozen Thunder, Canada
Frozen Thunder ski track in Canmore, Alberta offers a 2km loop training possibility in early season. Thanks to snowfarming, the course gets a solid base for early birds. Find all information about the tracks here.
