Terentev in his own class in U23 Classic Sprint, Lohmann wins women’s title at JWSC Vuokatti
The second competition day at FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2021 in Vuokatti (FIN) offered exciting sprint events and some final straight drama in women’s race.
Lisa Lohmann (GER) took her first individual JWSC gold medal. She took silver in 5km last year at U20 JWSC in Oberwiesenthal.
”It is like a dream. I felt really strong today.”
Hristina Matsokina (RUS) took the silver and Louise Lindström (SWE) took the bronze.
”Today is really cold and I am really happy I got a medal”, said Matsokina.
”I am happy to take the bronze medal after all”, Lindström said after an eventful finish.
Tereza Beranova (CZE) was the unluckiest one. She won the qualification and won her heat in quarterfinals and semifinals and was fighting hard about the victory but fell due to an incident when Anastasia Fadeeva changed the track in the final straight. Fadeeva crossed the finish line first but was disqualified and placed 6th.
Alexander Terentev (RUS) made his move early at the final race and won by a large margin. Terentev, who finished 4th last year in U23 free technique sprint in Oberwiesenthal, was naturally happy about winning the title.
Norway’s Aron Aakre Rysstad was satisfied with his result but had also a bit mixed feelings: ”I was a little bit disappointed when I crossed the finish line, but Terentev was really strong.” Terentev’s team mate Sergey Ardashev took the bronze.
