In his first World Cup weekend appearance after almost two months, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (NOR) stood on top of the favourite lists to take home todays Sprint victory. In each heat, the Norwegian was driven by team colleague Erik Valnes, who unluckily slid in the finals in the last turn and fell back to the 6th position. Pace setter in the finals, Sergey Ustiugov (RUS) impressively reported back on course after struggling to recover from a Covid-19 infection that he experienced in autumn. The Russian launched powerfully in the first part of the finals but was challenged by Oscar Svensson (SWE) who went all in after his maiden World Cup victory during the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme. Similar to his winning run then, Svensson was the first one to make a move into the final downhill, as the competitors stalled on top of the hill to use each others slipstream. His efforts got rewarded with a second final rank and his second World Cup podium. The last place in the spotlight was taken by Håvard Taugbøl Solås (NOR) who powerfully pushed his way past Ustiugov in the final stretch, earning his third place.
