Madona (LAT) hosted second ROL World Cup weekend 2020
Aug 30, 2020·Cross-CountryThe city of Madona in Latvia hosted the second FIS Roller Skiing World 2020 from 28th to 30th August. The ongoing restrictions due to Covid-19 caused a smaller number of participating nations but had no influence on a successful event held on site.
The organizer ensured a safe sport environment regulated according to the national health authorities suggestions and restrictions. The sport aspect did not get affected by it and the starter field enjoyed a cheering crowd along the race course.
Fridays Sprint competitions were driven by Latvian Kitija Auzina and Merle Richter from Germany at the Junior womens category. Both ensured a victory during the 200m Supersprint. The men's competition was equally won by a Latvian and German with Niks Saulitis in the Junior category and Nico Rieckhoff in the elite category.

Saturday awaited with a mass start womens 15km and mens 20km. Rain was the constant interactor during the junior as well as the elite competitions which changed the conditions for the athletes. Nevertheless, thanks to a great organisation in the field and along the race course, the competitions went injury-free and left room for strategic moments throughout the race.

For Sundays 10km/15km C races Madona went back to sunny mode and presented itself again from the perfect Roller Skiing location that it is.
Distance experts proved themselves along the 10/15km Distance in classic technique and made up for some close fights from the previous day. Especially Patrick Fossum Kristoffersen from Norway took revenge from the previous days Mass start competition which he lost at a finish sprint with 0.7 sec to Latvian Raimo Vigants. Today he turned the plate and takes home a victory in the mens elite category. With her third victory this weekend, also Junior Merle Richter from Germany can be proud of her results during the World Cup weekend.
