Russian podium sweep at Toblach ind. 15km F
Jan 05, 2021·Cross-CountryThe Russian team took control over todays 15km F individual start. Among the top-8, only Maurice Manificat (FRA) managed to sneak in with his 6th rank. Before top favourite and current leader of the Tour de Ski, Alexander Bolshunov (RUS) took the stage, it was Denis Spitsov who pulled out an extraordinary performance. After a slow start in 23rd position, the 24 year-old Russian fought to the top-10 spots and in the final lap and the strenuous, long ascent adjusted his position from 8th to 2nd. Finishing only 8.3 seconds behind Bolshunov, Spitsov reaches his career's best World Cup result. After fighting with a Covid-19 infection in autumn, Spitsov was lost for words but clearly thrilled about his performance.
Third placed Ivan Yakimushkin repeats his 3rd podium spot of the 15km C of Val Müstair in todays 15km F in Toblach and improves his Tour de Ski Overall position to 5th place.
