Swiss and Russian victory at Team Sprint in Dresden

Day two of the City Sprint weekend in Dresden (GER) was concluded with challenging fights on the demanding short track. Nadine Fähndrich and Laurien van der Graaff finally celebrate Switzerlands first victory in a womens team sprint. The well deserved win comes after being in the unlucky fourth place in the last two years.

Second placed Russian duo Natalia Nepryaeva and Yulia Stupak were taken over in the final stretch but were happy with the second rank which rewards them for their leading work and pace setting. Third placed Anamarija Lampic and Eva Urevc bring Slovenia back on the womens Team Sprint podium after 10 years.

Gleb Retivykh and Alexander Bolshunov hand Russia the first victory in a mens Team Sprint after three years. In the final laps, both top Sprinters set out and stretched the sucessors field apart. Only Richard Jouve and Lucas Chanavat from France managed to stay on the heels of the Russian power pack but could not defend their title from last year after the finish line. Third placed follows Italy represented by the winner of yesterday’s individual Sprint Federico Pellegrino together with Francesco de Fabiani.

Top-10 check

As the only U23 team in the mens Sprint Final, Valerio Grond (3rd World Cup start) and Yanik Riebli (8th World Cup start) from Switzerland impressed with a great performance. Due to a unlucky fall in the exchange zone, the duo was set back but can be proud of their first experiences in the World Cup.

The two U23 only team in the womens Sprint Final was Bayani Jialin (10th World Cup start) and Dinigeer Yilamujiang (12th World Cup start) from the China. The team Impressively held pace with the top athletes during the semifinals and were rewarded with their best result in their young careers.
