With the passing of Vyacheslav Vedenin, the Cross-Country world lost a thoroughly passionate athlete that was part of an era of skiers, who influenced Cross-Country profoundly.

Vedenin went down in Skiing history as his performances were untouchable at the Winter Olympic Games 1972. One of his most iconic triumph in his career was then also winning Gold in the mens Relay in Sapporo, as he went into the race as the anchor of the team – one minute behind the Norwegian team – and still managed to win.

His legacy is outstanding - not only by individual results but likewise his support of team colleagues with which he inspired generations of skiers.

The FIS Cross-Country family sends our deepest condolences to his family and ski friends.
