With the FIS Continental Cup in the disciplines Skijumping Women and Nordic Combined Men as well as the Cross-Country Nationals and US SuperTour Finals, the Whistler Olympic Park is getting ready for the FIS Nordic Junior and U23 World Ski Championships that will take place in Canada from 27th January to 5th February 2023.

The Ski Jumping hill in the Whistler Olympic Park is currently one of the only working facility in the country to host Ski Jumping events. Due to the pandemic, it could not be in use for the past years. Even more joyful has been the return of international athletes and international competitions.

Continental Cup – incl. livestream

On 18th and 19th March, the Continental Cup competitions were held in the same venue in Squamish, where the next generation of top Nordic athletes will be fighting for the precious titles of World Champions next year.

18th March - With fantastic snow conditions and a blue sky, the Continental Cup got underway. David Mach from Germany ended his jumping round in 6th position but caught up the 1:44 minute to leader Thomas Rettenegger from Austria in an exciting Cross-Country finish Sprint. With an incredibly tight margin of 0.1 seconds to Marc Luis Rainer, Mach wins the first COC in Whistler.

Katharina Althaus currently sets landmarks in the Women’s Ski Jumping world and naturally did so by hitting the 105m mark (and the only distance over 100m in the competition) in her first jump. The distance was backed up with a 97m jump and thus, Althaus remained untouchable for her contenders and took the victory 40 points of her team colleague Luisa Goerlich. Third on the COC podium – and an important result on home ground – is Alexandria Loutitt.

19th March – For the competitions of the second day of Continental Cup, a livestream set-up was tested that will also be implemented at the Nordic JWSC in 2023.
