Lillehammer (NOR): Diggins conquers the podium
Dec 02, 2022·Cross-CountryAs the second stop along the COOP FIS Cross-Country World Cup, Lillehammer - the Olympic city from 1994 - awaited the Cross-Country family. A total of six races for both woman and men, and the three-day event started up with 10km in Free technique.
Jessie Diggins was the fastes woman around the former Olympic Biathlon course near the Birkebeineren stadium today. As one of the latest starters, she followed on the fast pacing times of German Katharina Hennig and pulled off a superb final lap. "It was really hard, but the body responded very well, and it was so much fun to race."
Hennig occupied the leaders chair for a long time and watched Jessie Diggins chasing her times out in the course. As Diggins pushed towards the finish line, 3.8 seconds separated Diggins and Hennig and defined the first two ranks. Heidi Weng (NOR) secured herself the last spot on the podium with just 0,1 seconds before Ebba Andersson (SWE).
After last weekends third place in Ruka, Katharina Hennig took a new step up today and had her first podium in Free technique.
Another milstone was also set by Jessie Diggins: with todays World Cup victory, she tied with Kikkan Randall‘s U.S. record of 13th victories throughout their careers.
