Madona World Cup and Junior World Championships

From 25th to 28th August, the third stage of the FIS Rollerski World Cup and the Junior World Championship took place in Madona, Latvia. Thursday, 25th August started out with an interval race in Classic technique.
Athletes from 12 countries were signed up and competed for the titles.

Thursday, 25th August - Ind. C

The first title was taken by Estonian Gerda Kivil, who claimed the victory on the 7.5km course by the tight margin of 0.1 second to second placed Anna Maria Ghiddi from Italy. But also the host country recorded a first podium spot with Samanta Krampe, who finished in third position.

In the senior category - and thus the World Cup ranking, the siblings Kaidy and Keidy Kaasiku ensured Estonia more podium celebrations of the day with racing onto the 1st and 2nd place along 10km. Elisa Sordello from Italy concludes the podium.

The men's juniors first race followed along the 10km course track and Anton Grahn from Sweden managed to hit the fastest time, before his team colleague Malte Jutterdal. Aksel Artusi from Italy took the remaining spot on the podium.

In the World Cup ranking, Norwegian Amund Korsæth claimed the victory and defends his lead in the FIS Rollerski World Cup ranking. His biggest contender, Matteo Tanel from Italy came as close as 5.6 seconds to Korsæth's time, but had to take step on the second podium spot, before his Italian team colleague Tommaso Dellagiacoma.

Thursday, 26th August - Teamsprint

Day 2 of the four day Rollerski event schedule in Madona, teamed up the athletes for a Teamsprint. In front of the cheering home crowd, Latvian teams brought home a gold and bronce medal from the Junior World Championships ranking and also hit the podium in the World Cup categories with a victory amon the men and second place among women.

Saturday, 27th August - Supersprint

Saturday brought the crowds to the city center of Madona for world class Rollerski action with the Supersprint. In addition, the four competitions were live-streamed and are available to re-watch in full length on the FIS Rollerski YouTube channel.

Sabrina Borettaz (Italy) and Lauris Kaparkalejs (Latvia) sprinted to the golden titles of Junior World Champions and delivered outstanding performances against their top contenders.

On World Cup level, Jackline Lockner from Sweden and - the worlds fastest Rollerskier himself - Emanuele Becchis from Italy brought the victories home.

Sunday, 28th August - Mass start

On the final race day of a very busy Rollerski weekend, the athletes faced a Mass start of 15km and 20km. The young athletes showed impressive races and followed the footsteps of the World Cup elite.
