Women's Sprint

Also in the U23 categories at the Junior and U23 World Ski Championships in Lygna, Norway - the top Sprinter spot was taken by a Swede. Moa Hansson left no chances to her contenders and paced the fastest time already in the qualification.

Hansson was not to catch and still could not believe her achievement when receiving the Gold medal and title as World Champion: „I have not yet relized it. I dont know what I expected but I felt extremely strong and am so happy about my win today. It has been a while since I got some good results so I am even happier today."

Monika Skinder and Nataliya Mekryukova raced for the precious silver medal in a photofinish. Skinder, who won the Junior World Champion title last year before Moa Hansson, claimed the Silver medal after all.

Men's Sprint

Valerio Grond from Switzerland was the man of the day at the U23 World Championships. Similar to Hansson on the womens side, Grond dominated the mens result lists and was unbeatable in the heats. The 21 year-young had to fight back in the semi finals, after a broken pole. Nevertheless, Grond pulled it through and qualified for the finals in second position. Driven by this effort, the new U23 World Champion took the victory before Denis Filimonov and Magnus Oeyaas Haabrekke.

"It's incredible. I have been dreaming about this for long. My goal at the beginning of the season was to take a medal at these World Championships and I realized this, it's fantastic."Valerio Grond
