Green light for Zermatt-Cervinia men's World Cup downhill races
Oct 28, 2023·Alpine SkiingZermatt-Cervinia Representatives and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) met on Saturday, 28 October on the "Gran Becca" race course for the snow control. The recurring, regular snowfall over the last 10 days, the accumulated snow deposits and the low temperatures have ensured that the FIS International Ski and Snowboard Federation has given the green light for the men's World Cup runs on 11/12 November.
The representatives of the local organising committee and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation FIS found bright blue skies and perfect winter conditions on the "Gran Becca". In exactly two weeks, the first of four planned runs will be on the programme on this course in front of the Matterhorn. Preparations for the two weeks of racing are in full swing in all areas. Franz Julen, President of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), says: "Today is an important step. The positive snow control makes me especially happy for all the people in the team who work with so much heart and soul for these races every day. We will all work together to put on a top event. We are proud to bring the Ski World Cup back to Breuil-Cervinia after 46 years and in Zermatt we even had to wait 56 years for the world's best ski cracks to come back to the foot of the Matterhorn."
The "Gran Becca" is already presenting itself in an impressive winter dress two weeks before the first race. Christian Ziörjen, CEO of the local organising committee, says: "If we are lucky with the weather on the race days, we will send fantastic winter pictures to the world. Needless to say, we are excited to see how the best downhill skiers in the world will perform on the spectacular race piste." The wintry conditions on the Theodul Glacier mean that ski teams from around the world will benefit from excellent training conditions in the run-up to the races.
