In the men's division, the American Gus Schumacher won over 10 kilometers. In a close battle for the podium, the German Friedrich Moch secured second place. The Italian Davide Graz finished third.
Winner Helene Marie Fossesholm wanted to triumph in today's individual after bad luck for the fight for medals in the previous Sprint competition. She set the first exclamation mark with the fastest time at 1.3 kilometers. After that, the number 91, and thus the last starter in the field, left nothing to burn. With 15.7 seconds behind the runner-up Lisa Lohmann (GER), winning her first Junior World Championship title was perfect. “It was so great that I won the gold medal today. Of course that was my clear goal, but it is always something different if you achieve it. I thank the technicians and my sister. The feeling is great. "
The German Lisa Lohmann started her race just as ambitiously. In the meantime, she was always in the top four. Lohmann gave the decisive imputs on the last kilometer and improved to first place at the finish before being replaced by the individual winner Fossesholm: “I didn't expect to be able to fight for the podium. At the end I felt great and could really accelerate again. My skis were great and I felt good myself. The next competition will be in two days. "
The protege of former top cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk, Izabela Marcisz (POL), won the second medal in her second race. “In the first round, the trainer told me that I was wasting too much time and was already a long way off. Then I thought that it was no longer enough. But at the finish line it worked. I am so proud of my result ”.
The Polish Monika Skinder was on a medal course for a long time. However, in the last lap she lost so much time that in the end only 12th place jumped out.
Gus Schumacher (USA) put an exciting finish on the men. 700 meters before the finish line, he was 4.6 seconds behind the leading Friedrich Moch (GER). At the finish line he was able to beat the German and had the fastest time by 4.5 seconds. “I tried to start slowly and was in good shape. I noticed that I was getting closer and closer. It's just incredible and I can't believe I have the gold medal. ”
Friedrich Moch secured Germany the third medal in the JWM 2020 today. “I started quickly and lost strength in the last lap. I tried to keep the lead to Gus, but I couldn't keep it over the finish line. Still, I'm very happy with my medal, ”said the runner-up in his race. Even greater chances are eyed with in the mass start next Wednesday, March 4, 2020. "My strength lies in free technique." So it remains exciting.
Davide Graz (ITA) could only dream of a medal so far and had not expected that this dream would come true today. He was consistently in the top three in the race and was just 6.7 seconds behind the leader at the finish. "I didn't expect a medal at all, so of course I'm all the happier that I finished third today."
