Selections Swedish Cross-Country team 2020/21
May 19, 2020·Cross-CountryThe Swedish Ski Association presented the next season's A-national team and Team BAUHAUS. In total, 22 riders have been selected in the two different teams. "We have a really strong national team squad and a resource team with great expertise," says national team manager Anders Byström.
After a successful winter with two Swedes leading the Sprint World Cup, the Swedish Ski Federation is now looking ahead to a new exciting season, with the World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf as the big highlight.
During a special press conference, the athletes and coaches for the A squad and Team Bauhaus, and the coaches for Team Swedish team were presented. A total of nine women and five men have been selected for the A-national team. After the season's big break, sprint queen Linn Svahn steps up straight up in the A team. Emma Ribom and Moa Lundgren also take the same step. Johanna Hagström, Moa Olsson, Fredrik Andersson and William Poromaa also take the step from Team Svenska Spel to Team BAUHAUS.
"It is really fun to see what steps they have taken this winter and fun to see that the hard work we have done has produced results," says Ida Ingemarsdotter, who has been the coach of Team Svenska this past season.
Two old, two new coaches
Stefan Thomson and Magnus Ingesson continue as coach after the two successful years they had with the Swedish women. New coaches for the A country team and Team BAUHAUS will be Anders Högberg and Lars Ljung. Anders Högberg has been working as a coach in Norway for several years and now comes most recently from the Chinese national team. Lars Ljung has long worked with technical training with the national team, but now has a more overall responsibility for working with a red thread in the technology development for national teams.
"I have mostly worked with other nations so it will be fun to finally get to work more at home," says Anders Högberg.
New for this year is also that there will be more cooperation between women's and men's teams than previous years.
"We have a coach team with four coaches on the A-national team and Team BAUHAUS, then it is natural that we work together to make both the women's and men's national team work based on a similar philosophy. In this way, we can also utilize the entire competence of the coach staff and rider group,” Anders Byström explains.
Team Svenska
The investment is no longer limited in terms of age in the same way as before. In Umeå, Östersund and Falun Team Svenska is strengthened with the coach per team. Ida Ingemarsdotter and Martina Höök continue with the team in Östersund. Mattias Nilsson, who most recently comes from the Swedish men's national team, becomes responsible coach in Falun while former elite skater Andreas Domeij becomes responsible for Umeå.
After hard and intense recruitment work in recent weeks, the last pieces of the puzzle are in place and Anders Byström looks forward to getting the job started seriously.
"We have put together a strong and exciting coach group. Partly with expertise that already existed within the union but also through new people who can contribute with new perspectives. Now it is important to weld the group together and look ahead to give our riders the best conditions we can only," says the national team manager.
"As long as the situation is as it is right now, we cannot have regular camps. However, we will try to gather active in the places where they live, based on the rules and guidelines that exist," Byström concludes.
