Athletes retirement of Sophie Caldwell-Hamilton
Mar 30, 2021·Cross-CountryAfter eight years in the World Cup and 139 World Cup, 7 World Championships and 5 Olympic Winter Games starts, it was time to put on the race bib one last time at the Engadin World Cup. At least this was the plan for the 31 year-old, but despite of a false positive Covid-19 test, Sophie had to be quarantined and missed her last World Cup appearance.
Even if the end of her career did not turn out as one would have hoped for, Sophie Caldwell-Hamilton can look back on a very successful time as a professional athlete. From her first World Cup competition in December 2012 in Québec (CAN), to her first World Cup podium 2013 in Lahti (along with her team colleague and idol Kikkan Randall) to her first World Cup victory 2016 in the Sprint C in Oberstdorf, Sophie has always taken the team into account for any successes she celebrated.
It was a great pleasure having Sophie along the World Cup circuit and she will be dearly missed. Nevertheless, the FIS Cross-Country family wishes her all the best for the upcoming new chapters in life.
Thank you Sophie for all you have contributed to Cross-Country skiing!
