Westvold Hansen and Lurås Oftebro win summer titles

During a busy competition weekend in Lillehammer, Jens Lurås Oftebro also added a the title on the large hill to his resume and the team also explored a new competition format, the “Kombisprint”.
The weekend started with the men’s competition on the large hill on Friday, while the women’s team was still busy with an international online training camp for Nordic Combined women airing from Lillehammer into the world.
Espen Bjørnstad was the top jumper with a total of 130.7 points for a 132 metre jump, followed by Estonia’s Kristjan Ilves with 130 m (124.6 p.) and jumping prodigy Kasper Moen Flatla with 126 m (118.4 p.).
Even though Oftebro had only ranked sixth in the jumping round, last season’s shooting star impressed with the best cross-country time of 25.07.8 to take the title 33.1 seconds ahead of Jørgen Graabak, who had started six seconds earlier than Oftebro but only had the third-fastest time of the day. Estonian Ilves claimed the third place, +0:46 behind Oftebro, while Bjørnstad had to be satisfied with rank four in the end.
In the NC-B category, Eidar Johan Strøm took the title ahead of Andreas Ottesen and Espen Benjaminsen. USA’s Carter Brubaker was fourth.
Gyda Westvold Hansen impressed with a flawless ski jumping performance in Sunday’s championship event on the normal hill. With 90.5 metres, she started one minute and 27 seconds ahead of runner-up Mari Leinan Lund, who showed 84.5 metres on the jumping hill. Sister Marte was third with 73.5 metres and a start time of +2:22 behind Westvold Hansen.
With the second fastest skiing time, the Norwegian team leader won her national title over two minutes ahead of Mari Leinan Lund, who crossed the finish line +2:09.5 later. Marte Leinan Lund claimed rank three, +2:15.1 behind the winner.
In the NC-B category, Eidar Johan Strøm also took the normal hill title, 11.2 seconds ahead of Espen Benjaminsen. Andreas Ottesen was third +0:48 behind the winner.
Harald Johnas Riiber shot to the top of the ski jumping result list with a jump of 99.5 metres and shared the lead with Kristjan Ilves. The Estonian had an uber-jump of 105.5 metres but with lower judges scores, he achieve 127.1 points to Riiber’s 127.2. Behind the duo, Espen Andersen was third with 96 metres and 123 points.
In the race, the third-fastest time was enough for Jens Lurås Oftebro to move from the sixth position to the win with a gap of 29.5 seconds on second-placed Harald Johnas Riiber. Riiber, in turn, outsprinted Leif Torbjørn Næsvold for the second place, beating Næsvold to the finish line by 0.4 seconds.

World Cup dominator Jarl Magnus Riiber was not on start this weekend, as he is just returning to the jumping hill after a crash earlier this summer forced him on the sidelines.
