Hansen wins final and overall World Cup in Schonach

Gyda Westvold Hansen is the winner of the last competition of the 2021/22 Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup, after already being in the lead after the Ski Jumping round in Schonach (GER).
In beautiful sunny conditions the Overall World Cup winner jumped the furthest distance of the day with 102 meters (131.2 pts) in the morning at the Langenwaldschanze HS 100 and took the lead. Therefore, she was the first one to start into the 5 km race at the Wittenbachtal cross-country course this afternoon.
Rank 2 after jumping went to yesterday’s second Haruka Kasai from Japan, who landed at 96.5 meters (120.8 pts) and went into the course 42 seconds after the Norwegian.
Slovenian Ema Volavsek (93 mts, 118.2 pts) placed third with a 52 second backlog to the leader.
Annika Sieff (90 mts, 114.1pts) placed 4th and started 1:08 minutes behind the leader from Norway, who stopped her race yesterday due to some health issues after her Covid-19 infection three weeks ago.
With her solid lead in the overall ranking, the Norwegian is already the winner of the World Cup season 2021/22 but also fought hard for another victory today.
Kasai showed a strong performance on skis and constantly reduced the gap to Hansen to 30.9 sec already after 1.2 km.
The Norwegian, who won every single World Cup competition all winter, except yesterday, struggled to hold her pursuers at a distance but didn’t give up this time.
After 3.5 km Volavsek and Kasai had reduced the gap to 25_._5 sec and and picked up the pace once again on the final lap. On the last uphill, at 4.5 km, Kasai was only 3.8 sec behind Hansen who managed to regain some distance on the following downhill part and reached the finish line 7.8 sec ahead of the Japanese. Ema Volavsek (+16.6 sec) completed the podium on rank 3.
Gyda Westvold Hansen is the overall World Cup winner, as well as the winner of the blue bib as Best Jumper. Yesterday’s winner Anju Nakamura from Japan took the victory in the red bib ranking as Best Skier.
