Nordic Combined - Season Preview 2023-24

This week, the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup season 2023-24 will start.

After the traditional season opener in Ruka (FIN), consisting of the World Cup premiere of the Individual Compact, one Individual Gundersen and a Mass Start for the men, the women will join in Lillehammer (NOR) in early December.
Two Individual competitions are on the program for both genders, before the World Cup will take a one weekend break. 
The last competition of the year will take place in Ramsau (AUT), with a Mass Start and an Individual Compact event for the men as well as a Gundersen and a Compact competition for the women.

The new year will begin with a highlight right away. For the first time Oberstdorf (GER) will welcome both genders for an exciting World Cup weekend with an Individual Gundersen and a Compact event for men and women, kicking off the German Trophy.

The special tour will be held for both genders for the first time, after its premiere last season. 
The second part of the German Trophy will take place in one of Nordic Combined’s most traditional venues: Schonach (GER) welcomes the kings and queens of Nordic sports for two Individual Gundersen events for both genders, including the Schwarzwaldpokal for the men and the final of the German Trophy.

The third period will start with the traditional Seefeld TRIPLE (AUT) for the men as well as a Gundersen and a Compact event for the women, before the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup returns to the far north. 
Otepää (EST) will host a packed World Cup weekend, starting with a Mass Start, as well as two Individual Gundersen competitions for both genders.

Kicking off the fourth period, Lahti (FIN) will welcome the Nordic Combined World Cup in the beginning of March, with one Team Sprint and a Gundersen event for the men, before the Scandinavian journey continues to Norway.

The women will join the World Cup again in Oslo (NOR) for a Gundersen event, that, like last year, will take place over two days.  
The Ski Jumping competition will be held in Midtstuen on Thursday, before the Cross-Country race takes place in Nordic Combined’s birthplace on Holmenkollen on Saturday. 
Meanwhile, the men will compete in two Gundersen events. In addition, all athletes will have the chance to fight for the Kings Trophy once again.

The final for men and women will then take place in Trondheim (NOR) in the end of March, during the test event for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2025. 
One Mixed Team event and an Individual Gundersen are on the program for both genders, before the Overall World Cup champions will be crowned. 
Additionally, a small globe will be given to the best male and female athlete of the Compact format.

With the Overall World Cup winners 2022/23, Gyda Westvold Hansen (NOR) and Johannes Lamparter (AUT), the favorites for this winter have already been determined.

But their direct pursuers, Vice-World Champion Nathalie Armbruster (GER) and World Champion Jarl Magnus Riiber (NOR) are hot on their heels.
