Maiden win for Nika Kriznar at GP final
Aug 18, 2019·Ski JumpingSlovenia's Nika Kriznar won the third and final competition of the FIS Women's Grand Prix 2019. With jumps of 104 m and 100.5 m (249.7 points), Kriznar took the win ahead of Juliane Seyfarth of Germany (101.5 m and 94 m; 242.8 points) and Slovenia's Ursa Bogataj (101.5 m and 96 m; 237.3 points).
This was the first win in the FIS Grand Prix for the 19-year-old Junior World Champion from Kandersteg, who was third (Hinterzarten) and sixth (Courchevel) this summer. "It feels great to be on top of the podium, this is my best result in summer GP. I had two great jumps today with a new hill record so I am very pleased with that. It was a tough competition today. I missed the overall title by only 1 point because Sara Takanashi won two events, so it was really close", explained the winner.
The final event in Frenstat was an outstanding success for the team of Slovenia. Besides today's winner Nika Kriznar, three more Slovenian jumpers came in among the very best. Ursa Bogataj, Spela Rogelj and Maja Vtic finished on the places three to five.
Only Juliane Seyfarth of Germany was able to keep up with the Slovenes today and came in second. "I am very happy with today’s result. I still have work to do, as my second jump is never as good as the first one. I really enjoyed this summer season, even though it was a very short one for us", Seyfarth said after the competition.
Ursa Bogataj was happy about her third place today: "My jumps were much better than yesterday, so i am really satisfied with that. It was a short summer season but a very successful one for me, the best one I have ever had."
Czech Karolina Indrackova showed a strong performance in front of the home crowd and finished sixth. This is by far the best result of her career so far. Lara Malsiner (ITA), Josephine Pagnier (FRA), Alexandra Kustova (RUS) and Misaki Shigeno completed the Top 10 in Frenstat.
Sara Takanashi wins the GP for the eighth time in a row
Kriznar scored a total of 200 points, just like overall winner Sara Takanashi, and finishes second in the overall ranking of the Grand Prix 2019 because Takanashi could win two competitions. This means Sara Takanashi wins this overall title for the eighth time in a row. Juliane Seyfarth is the best German of the Grand Prix 2019 in third with 172 points.
The next competition for the women will now be the World Cup opener in Lillehammer (NOR) on December 7th and 8th.
