Marius Lindvik wins in Planica, Ryoyu Kobayashi takes the overall World Cup

Ski Flying World Champion Marius Lindvik won this season's final competition on Sunday in Planica (SLO). In a great competition, the Norwegian came in ahead of Japan's Yukiya Sato and local hero Peter Prevc. Ryoyu Kobayashi claimed the overall World Cup title and Ziga Jelar the Ski Flying World Cup. Severin Freund announced his retirement today.

It was a Planica-Sunday for the history books that the 20000 fans at the HS 240 Letalnica-hill could experience. The final day of the 2021/22 Ski Jumping season had everything: Bright sunshine, oustanding performances with flights over 240 m and big emotions. The Ski Jumping family lived up to its name on this Sunday.

First, Ski Flying World Champion and Olympic Champion Marius Lindvik took the win today: "It's incredible to end this great season with a win. The fans here are amazing and the atmosphere is unique, thanks to everyone who came here today", said Lindvik, for whom this was the eighth win in the World Cup, the fifth this season. Lindvik is only the third Norwegian to win an individual competition in Planica.

Japan's Yukiya Sato came in second in today's competition. Sato, who hasn't been on the podium so far this season, said: "This second place comes as a huge surprise to me, I'm very happy that I made it to the podium in the final competition of the season."

Peter Prevc was the best Slovene in third and he also came in second in the Nations Cup with his Slovenian team. They moved up from fourth to second this weekend, but Austria could still defend the lead and took the overall win only 47 points ahead of Slovenia - that was really close. Austria is the best Ski Jumping team of the 2021/22 season.

The places 4 - 7 in today's competition all went to ski flyers from Slovenia: Timi Zajc, Anze Lanisek, Ziga Jelar, and Cene Prevc gave the 20 000 fans a lot of reasons to celebrate.

With the eighth place today, Ryoyu Kobayashi secured the overall World Cup ttile. In the end, Kobayashi had a lead of 106 points over Karl Geiger (16th today). Geiger congratulated Kobayashi in the outrun right after his jump. It's the second overall win for Kobayashi and he is now one of 12 ski jumpers who could win this title more than once.

The Ski Flying World Cup overall title went to Slovenia's Ziga Jelar with 270 points, ahead of his teammate Timi Zajc (260 points) and Austria's Stefan Kraft (224 points).

Severin Freund ended his successful career with the second jump today.
