Wind makes Ski Jumping in Innsbruck impossible
Jan 04, 2022·Ski JumpingThe third competition of the 70th 4-Hills-Tournament on the Bergisel in Innsbruck (AUT) became a victim of the strong wind on Tuesday afternoon.
After the cancelation of the trial round and various delays of the starting time, the jury was forced to cancel the competition at about 3 pm CET. The strong wind made it impossible to carry out a safe and fair competition.
"We were already at the hill at 10 am and there were wind gusts all day. In just a matter of seconds, it went up from 2 m/s to 8 m/s, especially at the take-off table we had a strong tailwind. We tried everything we could, shortly before 3 pm the conditions were a lot better and we had the feeling that it would be possible to jump, but in the end, the wind was just too strong again. The plan now is to have two competitions in Bischofshofen", FIS Race Director Sandro Pertile explained.
"It's a pity that the competition was canceled today, we really would have wanted to jump here today. But it was the right decision, it was too dangerous to jump. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is also not that great for Bischofshofen tomorrow, but we'll see. Nothing really changes for us now, we have to wait for a mistake of Kobayashi", said Stefan Horngacher, head coach of the German team.
Second competition in Bischofshofen
The competition, which had to be canceled in Innsbruck, shall now take place in Bischofshofen on Wednesday.
The official training is scheduled for 11:30 am CET, followed by the qualification at 1 pm CET. The competition shall start at 4:30 pm CET.
