Ema Klinec

Slovenia's Ema Klinec won the first women's ski jumping qualification of the winter in Wisla (POL) on Friday. Klinec won ahead of Silje Opseth (Norway) and Nika Kriznar (SLO).
Marita Kramer (AUT) and Katharina Althaus (GER) finished fourth and fifth.

"It's still a bit weird to open the season like this, but you can see that it's possible without artificial snow. I am looking forward to the first competition of the season tomorrow" Katharina Althaus stated.
Althaus had done extremely well in the two training runs before the qualification.

World Cup Cremeiere on Plastic Mats
The HS 134-metre Adam Malysz hill in Wisla is covered with plastic mats, as they are normally used for training and competitions of ski jumpers in summer.
It is the first time that a ski jumping World Cup is held on a hill "without snow". The inrun is the usual ice track, the landing is on green plastic mats.

Westman strong
In addition to the top finishers, Sweden's Frida Westman also had a good start to the new season with a 6th place. The Swede, who is trained by the former Norwegian top athlete Roar Ljoekelsoey, continues to march inexorably towards the top of the world.
Eva Pinkelnig (AUT) convinced with 7th place, double Olympic champion Ursa Bogataj came in 8th.
Abigail Strate (CAN) and Japan's Ringo Miyajima were happy about places 10 and 12.

Maren Lundby is back
The comeback of the day and certainly of this winter was made by Maren Lundby from Norway. The 26-year-old three-time overall World Cup winner had her last World Cup in March 2021, so today in Wisla was the first competition after a 1.5-year break. In the end she finished 14th in the qualification, a strong result for and by Lundby.
