Monday Mix - April 6, 2020
Apr 06, 2020·Snowboard Park & PipeIt's the first Monday of April in the year 2020 and we're bringing the Monday Mix back for another off-season! Obviously, the situation in the world is a little different than the last time we ran this series, with the majority of snowboarders around the world in various stages of lockdown as we all work together to try to bring the spread of coronavirus under control, and this means there might not be as much actual snowboarding in these columns as there once was, unfortunately.
However, from fun backyard rail set-ups to insane home work-out routines to funny self-isolation self-entertainment activities, we've collected some of the best goings-on from the last couple weeks in the world of shred.
2019/20 World Cup #topmoments
First up, we encourage you to head over to our Instagram page and check out our collection of some of the season's top moments, from parallel to halfpipe and everything in between. Max Parrot's (CAN) triumphant return to the World Cup post-cancer recovery, Benny Karl (AUT) and Mirko Felicitti's (ITA) big final tie in Blue Mountain, Belle Brockhoff's (AUS) first win in nearly four years at Big White...there's plenty of incredible stories to revist from the 2019/20 World Cup season.
Speaking of top moments, the US squad published a nice piece looking back at their 2019/20 competition season, with plenty of impressive stuff to revisit from the World Cup season. Check that out HERE.
In some non-World Cup competition news, X Games Real Snow voting just wrapped up over the weekend, with Finland's Rene Rennekangas taking top honours in the fan vote. Over the years the Real Snow contest has facilitated in some of the gnarliest urban snowboarding ever, and Rennekangas' winning video this season stands up there amongst the best. This is a must-watch...
Up next we've Modena big air World Cup winner Nic Lamframboise and his brother Felix practicing safe social distancing by venturing out to an extremely deserted - and extremely snowless - hill, where they screwed some wood and metal together, threw down a few shovelfuls of slush, and got down to business working on their minirail combos...
Of course, the best form of social distancing is staying home, which is just fine if you're Sven Thorgren (SWE) and you've got your own private minipark in your backyard...
Or maybe your backyard happens to be Anchorage, Alaska, in which case you can make like Ryan Stassel (USA) and simply go climb McHugh Peak to get away from it all and enjoy a little time in the snow and some truly unreal views...
However, as we know, getting outside and onto the snow isn't an option for most people right now, in which case you might be looking for inside entertainment of some kind. If so, there's plenty of inspo on Insta right now from some of the world's best shredders, including this season's Laax Open slopestyle winner Sebastien Toutant (CAN), who brought his trampoline board inside and put together his variation on the parkour challenge - with a finale that'll be tough to top for anybody...
Or hey why not take the time to put your energy into some more artistic pursuits like Lindsey Jacobellis who, as it turns out, isn't just one of the greatest SBX riders of all time and a six-time world champion, but also a decent ukelele player and lovely singer ...
Avid cyclist Benny Karl seems to have found a suitable compromise between getting out on the bike and staying close to the homestead, setting up a top-notch stationary rig in his backyard in Austria...
Meanwhile, 2019/20 slopestyle crystal globe winner Katie Ormerod (GBR) is keeping things about as simple as can be, demonstrating a range of workout routines for the home that require little more than a yoga mat and a little bit of commitment...
Alpine rider Alexander Payer's (AUT) found a workout solution almost as simple as Ormerod's - all you need for this one is a big rock outside your back door...
And, finally, everybody loves a good SBX point-of-view clip so here's a few of the best women in the business getting after it, as Michela Moioli (ITA), Chloe Trespeuch and Nelly Moenne-Loccoz mix it up in a training run at Cervinia back in December...
We'll wrap things up this week with some more riding, with a with a look back to only just a few weeks ago when the chairlifts were still spinning at Corvatsch park in Switzerland, where Nicolas Huber was building up his trick arsenal by stomping some truly epic triple 1620's under the Swiss sun...
That's it for now! Keep your eyes on our social media pages throughout the week as we roll out some more 2019/20 season #topmoments highlights, as well as best-of photo galleries and more...
