Halfpipe World Cup qualifications at Mammoth Mountain.

Mammoth Mountain (USA) - After a successful double event in Colorado’s Aspen Snowmass (USA) last weekend, FIS Freeski World Cup moves to the final location of the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix tour for another pair of World Cup events set to take place at the premier Californian resort of Mammoth Mountain, before everyone’s attention turns to the PyeongChang 2018  Olympic Winter Games.

No stranger to hosting top-level winter sports athletes, Mammoth has long served as a training ground for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's top skiers and snowboarder, providing a world-class halfpipe, slopestyle and big air training ground for America’s best. This week the level competiton should be even higher than normal, as this marks the final chance for many athletes to grab a spot on their national Olympic teams.

With a stacked field of riders all on hand here in Mammoth, a perfectly cut 22-foot superpipe, and an always-progressive slopestyle course, the FIS Freeski World Cup tour is ready for another exciting week of competitions.

US Freeski Team with high expectations in halfpipe competitions.

After Brita Sigurney placed second and the men’s team swept the podium last week in Snowmass, the US Freeski Team is entering this week’s halfpipe competitions in Mammoth aiming to dominate the contest as they move toward finalizing the selection process for the US Olympic Team.

And with some of the top names such as Marie Martinod (FRA), Kevin Rolland (FRA), Noah Bowman (CAN) or Mike Riddle (CAN) are sitting out the competition in California, the chances for US riders to play the cards among themselves are now even higher.

While looking at the starting lists keep an eye on USA’s Sigourney, Maddie Bowman, Annalisa Drew and Carly Margulies competing in the ladies’ event, as well as the entire contingent of top-tier US riders on the men’s side with David Wise, Aaron Blunck, Torin Yater-Wallace and Gus Kenworthy leading the way.

Slopestyle start lists chock-full of big names.

The level of competition will be also up to the ceiling in the slopestyle competition with almost 120 athletes ready to drop in and fight for the World Cup points.

In the ladies’ event watch out for the last weekend’s top riders Johanne Killi (NOR), Maggie Voision (USA) and Isabel Atkin (GBR) as well as the current slopestyle World Cup leader Jennie-Lee Burmansson (SWE), Tiril Sjaastad Christiansen (NOR), Emma Dahlstrom (SWE) and Tess Ledeux (FRA), who should all be ready to step their games up and go for a win just a couple of weeks ahead of the Games in Korea.

Over on the men’s side take into account US top guns McRae Williams, Gus Kenworthy and Nick Goepper, who will face a strong competition from the likes of the Swiss team, lead by Andri Ragettli, the Canadians with Alex Bellemare and Evan McEachran, as well as the whole bunch of Scandinavian rippers such as Oystein Braaten (NOR), Oscar Wester (SWE) and Elias Syrja (FIN), just to name the few.
