The people have spoken and truth be told we’re a little bit surprised, because when the dust had settled and the votes were counted it wasn’t the bigger, star-studded PyeongChang 2018 Olympic test-event competition at Bokwang Phoenix Park from 2016 coming out on top, but instead it was Jyrvaskayla 2012 - the first slopestyle World Cup competition ever held - taking the win.

The freeski fans have chosen again. In our third instalment of the #ClassicsLive series, we’re going back in time to the first freeski slopestyle World Cup event ever in Finland’s Jyväskyäla resort back in 2012. There, Cyrill Hunziker and Linn-Ida Murud would make a little history by claiming the victories while competing against a stacked field of athletes including the likes of Natalia Slepacka, Zuzana Stromkova, PK Hunder, Antti Ollila, Sam Favret or Colby West… We’re going LIVE tomorrow at 12:00 CET on our Youtube channel as well as facebook fanpage. Stay tuned! 👊 #fisfreestyle #freeski #slopestyle #throwback #worldcup

But hey, that’s the beauty of democracy, and with the win for Jyrvaskayla we get to do a little time travelling to the humble beginnings of the FIS Freeski slopestyle World Cup, where the jumps were small and the rails were simple, but the stoke was high nonetheless.

Linn-Ida Marud (NOR) and Cyrill Hunziker (SUI) walked away with the wins and a little piece of history on that February day eight years ago, while the likes of Antti-Jussi Kamppainen (FIN), PK Hunder (NOR), Eveline Bhend (SUI) and Natalia Slepecka (RUS) all also earned a piece of those first slopestyle World Cup podiums.

See how it all went down here…
