The Freestyle Rundown - June 18, 2020
Jun 18, 2020·Freeski Park & PipeHello and welcome to this week's edition of the Freestyle Rundown. With the start of summer OFFICIALLY going down on Saturday, this'll be the last edition of what has been a pretty tumultous spring inside and outside the world of skiing. However, even with the OFFICIAL start of summer just around the corner, the good content is still flying fast and furious out there, and as always we've wrangled up some of the best to send you into those first OFFICIAL summer days with a little bit of stoke.
First things first, we'd like to point you towards our latest #ClassicsLive YouTube stream, where the 2013/14 season-ender dual moguls competition is now playing in its entirety. Featuring victories for two of the greatest to ever do it - Hannah Kearney (USA) and Alex Bilodeau (CAN) - this one is chock-full of great skiing and good memories...
Now, we know the whole "sending into (Monday/the weekend/summer/whatever) like..." captions have been done to death, but is there really any other way to sum up this Lukas Muellauer clip?
So yes, we'll say that we're sending it into this week's Freestyle Rundown like Lukas Muellauer. And always, ALWAYS respect the send...
Ok but also, there's the plain old "send" like we just saw from Herr Muellauer, but have you heard of the "banana send"?
No?
That's probably because it's simply too fresh. From what we understand, though, the cool Norwegians are all over it, which means Birk Ruud is obviously at the very forefront of the trend...
When Birk hasn't been busy falling into a fjord, it looks like him and the rest of the Freeskilandslaget have found their way into a pretty nice slush session in Fonna. Sebastian Schjerve is there and judging by this clip he's schjerving up some pretty heavy punishment for the Fonna rails. Looks like all that backyard PVC pipe action is paying off...
Ferdinand Dahl is there too, and he's pumped...
From one smooth set of switch-ups to another; Germany's finest Lisa Zimmermann is on snow in Kaunetaler and straight up DANCING on the rails in Austria...
Thirsty for more Freeski Germany in Kaunertaler? No problem! Marius Reck was there too, and he put together a real nice little soul shred edit for your viewing enjoyment...
If for some reason you happen to be in Austria with your skis but you're NOT able to get up to Kaunertaler, maybe take a page out of Melanie Meilinger's book and head over to the water ramps in Villach. Just, try not to land on a duck while you're there...
Not to be outdone, the Swedish moguls team has a pretty picturesque lake set-up of their own...
But ho-leee if you want to talk about water ramps, from now on you're going to have to talk about what the Aussies have got going on just outside of Brisbane. This is serious stuff...
Ok that looks amazing, but we all agree that nothing beats real snow - even if it means real snow put together to make the smallest ski cross course of all time. Right, Daniel Bohnacker??
We interrupt the regularly scheduled Rundown programming with breaking news - Kelly Sildaru got a puppy! D'awwwww...
...and Justine Dufour-Lapointe got a bike!
...and David Morris got bruised toes!
...and Colby Armstrong is doing an Instagram takeover for Oakley today!
Alright, that wasn't a very coherent section, but this one should be better 🤞😝.
There was plenty of supersick oldies and goodies hitting the timeline over the past bunch of days, so howsabout a little throwback speed round? First up, Alex Beaulieu-Marchand and this massive and mental alley-oop dub from the Audi Nines...
Jesper Tjader dustin' knuckles and knuckle huckin'...
Cody Laplante throwing fire at Mammoth...
Oliwer Magnuson with some sickness from training at the Atlanta big air World Cup...
The US squad lining up a full replay of this season's Deer Valley dual moguls competition...
Ok, that's it for the throwback round and very nearly for this week's Rundown, but before we go we've gotta say, the more we learn the more pumped we are for Henrik Harlaut's latest project...
We're taking a break next week here at the Rundown, but we will be back and better than ever (as if that's even possible!) in a couple weeks. So, seeing as how we started out this week with a send, and we won't be back for two more weeks, let's finish things off here with a DOUBLE send courtesy of Emil Granbom and Freeski Sweden...
