The Freestyle Rundown - July 24, 2020
Jul 24, 2020·FreestyleHappy Friday and welcome back to the Freestyle Rundown, where we'll send you into the weekend right with a collection of some of the best content we've come across in the world of freestyle and freeski over the past seven days - with national team camps going down from Mt Hood to Les 2 Alps, some salutes to 7/20 day, a whole bunch of bridge jumping in Zurich, and much more.
First off though, a shout out to the GOAT, as the incomparable Mikael Kingsbury celabrates his 28th birthday today with a throwback to snowier times in Ruka...
Now on to some summer vibing with Andri Ragettli, who seems to have survived his yearly military training and is back doing what he does best - taking over the internet with a classic dose of mania, running wild in the streets and hucking himself into the rivers of Zurich...
It's not just Andri repping the Swiss Freeski boys in the "jumping off of things" department, as Fabian Boesch took things up a notch with this ridiculous double off a 20m cliff in Tocino...
Judging by this nice collection of portraits, it looks like a solid Swiss Freeski crew is on hand in Tocino there for summer training camp...
Speaking of camps, the US Freeski team just wrapped up what looked like a banger of an on-snow halfpipe camp at Mt Hood, and if you haven't been living under a rock for the last few weeks you've probably seen some of the sweet content coming from the volcano of fun there in Oregon. You can read the camp recap HERE.
While the US team camp may be officially over, that doesn't mean action at Hood has slowed down, as Alex Ferreira will attest to with this slick dub 10...
And how about a little line from Hunter Henderson, taking it upsidedown off the canon rail, stomping bombs with aplomb...
Some of the US moguls team is also on hand in Hood, including Jesse Andringa, who's working on getting his feet back under himself as he comes back from a shoulder injury suffered at the Deer Valley World Cup this past season. Loving the twister-spread-twister-spread in clip three...
Also on snow for some summer training is the Italian Freeski team, who arrived in Les 2 Alpes this week for a few days of shredding and getting shredded.
By the looks of things in this clip, the shredding has been going very well, indeed, as the whole squad got in on the action tearing it up on the glacier...
Special shout out to Mr. Easy Tigerz aka Ralph Welponer himself for this absolute rail assault clip...
From camp to camp to camp, this time over to Zermatt where the Swiss ski cross team just wrapped up what looked like an extremely positive few days, with near-perfect conditions up on the glacier from start to finish...
Saskia Jack was there and gettin' after it in the gates...
The Swiss team also announced the retirement this week of 28-year-old Priscillia Annen after seven seasons of World Cup action. Congrats to Priscillia on your career, and good luck to you in the future!
From camp to camp to camp to CAMP, with Melanie Meilinger checking in from Kitzsteinhorn on behalf of the Austrians...
Meanwhile, Melanie's freeski compatriots are hitting the gym, the water ramps, and...the unicycle?
Down south the young guns of the Australian moguls team are on snow at Mt Buller and stoked to be there...
This past Monday was July 20, which can also be written as 7/20 and, in honour of the only date on the calendar that translates to a shred-relevant rotation, a bunch of the world's best celebrated the day by posting their favourite version of the ever-stylish spin.
First up we've got the legend Simon Dumont with a couple versions from his return to snow earlier this year...
And Colby Stevenson came through with this insane switch dub bow + arrow version that we really can't get enough of...
We're not sure how many 720s are in this BLINDFOLDED effort from Noe Roth, but maybe three? Is this a 2160? Double-full, double-full, double-full? Did we mention he is BLINDFOLDED here??
We don't think Antoine Adellise is blindfolded for this one from the big jump at BangerPark, but that certainly doesn't make it any less sweet...
Some throwback action now, as Kim Gubser says he's still stoked on this one from December at the Beijing Air + Style big air World Cup. We are too, Kim...we are too.
Also throwing it back was Sam Baumgartner with this wild flip-in slide from Dachstein...
We're going to wrap it up there for this week, but before we go we'll leave you with a little old school stoke, with this perfect spread eagle to send you soaring into the weekend. Thanks for reading, and we'll catch back up with you right here on the Rundown next week!
