French moguls skiing sensation Perrine Laffont has announced her decision to take a hiatus from the upcoming World Cup of moguls skiing this winter. This decision comes on the heels of a remarkable season last year, where Laffont dominated the sport with her exceptional performances.

At the Bakuriani 2023 World Championships, Laffont clinched two gold medals in both the single and dual moguls events. These victories marked her career’s fourth and fifth World Championship gold medals, catapulting her to the top of the FIS Freestyle all-time women’s World Championships rankings. Surpassing moguls greats Jennifer Heil and Kari Traa, Laffont has firmly established herself as the undisputed Queen of Moguls. Additionally, her consistent performance throughout the 2022/23 World Cup season was nothing short of extraordinary, securing four victories and finishing outside the top-3 in only one out of 12 World Cup competitions. Her prowess earned her the overall crystal globes in both dual moguls and moguls categories.

However, Laffont is now taking a strategic pause from competitive skiing to focus on her long-term goals, including the 2025 World Championships and the 2026 Winter Olympics. During her break, she plans to engage in intensive athletic and mental training, aiming to enhance her performance and maintain her position as the world's leading moguls skier.

Perrine Laffont's decision to take a break underlines the importance of strategic career planning and the balance between competition, training, and recovery. As the mogul skiing world prepares for an exciting season, Laffont's absence will be felt, but it also sets the stage for new champions to emerge.

With Laffont out of contention for the 2023/24 World Cup season, the women's field is wide open. The spotlight now shifts to other top athletes like Australia's Jakara Anthony, Japan's Anri Kawamura or Jaelin Kauf from the strong US team. These skiers, among others, promise to make the upcoming World Cup season thrilling and highly competitive.
