USA triumphs in Aerials Team Event at Changchun World Cup
Dec 17, 2023·FreestyleIn a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, the USA emerged victorious in the aerials mixed team event at the FIS Freestyle World Cup in Changchun this Sunday. Winter Vinecki, Christopher Lillis, and Quinn Dehlinger led Team USA to a commanding win, with China securing both second and third places in a closely contested battle.
Following the individual event on Friday, where Winter Vinecki and Pirmin Werner clinched the top spots, Sunday's competition showcased the only aerials team event of the 2023/24 World Cup season. Despite the chilly weather, the snow conditions were ideal, setting the stage for an unforgettable aerials skiing display. Eight teams from China, the USA, Ukraine, and Switzerland battled it out in two intense rounds of competition.
Dominating the field, USA’s Team 1 was in exceptional form throughout the day. They led both rounds of the finals, ultimately clinching the title with a final combined score of 347.85 points—one of the highest in the history of the aerials mixed team World Cup.
In the super final, Vinecki performed an outstanding Lay-Full-Full, while Lillis and Dehlinger each flawlessly executed double Full-Full-Full's. Their combined efforts not only secured a significant victory for the US team but also made a bold statement in the world of aerials skiing.
China’s Team 2, comprising Chen Meiting, Wang Xindi, and Li Tianma, earned a well-deserved second place, finishing with 316.63 points. Not far behind, Kong Fanyu, Zhang Yifan, and Qi Guangpu from Team China 1 completed the podium, amassing a total of 287.07 points.
With this thrilling event wrapped up, the aerials World Cup tour will take a short holiday break before returning with renewed vigor in early February. The next stop is set to take place at the renowned ‘White Owl’ venue in Deer Valley, promising more breathtaking aerials action.
