A glimpse of the venue for the FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships
Dec 30, 2024·FreestyleAlmaty is gearing up to host the 2025 FIS Freestyle Junior World Championships, set to take place from January 7–11, 2025. Over five action-packed days, the world’s most talented young freestyle skiers will compete in moguls, dual moguls, dual moguls team, aerials, and aerials team events. The competition promises to showcase the rising stars of the sport in one of the most spectacular venues on the calendar.
Shymbulak Ski Resort, the venue for the championships, has a long-standing history of hosting elite freestyle skiing events. It has already hosted five editions of the FIS Freestyle World Cup and the unforgettable 2021 FIS Freestyle World Championships. Later this season, Shymbulak will once again welcome top athletes for both aerials and moguls World Cup events, underscoring its central role in the freestyle skiing world.
The venue is renowned for its exceptional courses. The "Yuka G" moguls course starts at an altitude of 2,750 meters above sea level, the highest of any starting gate on the World Cup tour. The challenge of competing at such heights, combined with the breathtaking views of the Tien Shan mountains, creates a unique and memorable experience for both athletes and spectators. Meanwhile, the aerials venue, situated at the base of the resort’s middle station, offers an equally stunning setting for high-flying action.
Almaty has built a strong reputation as a world-class host for winter sports events, including the 2017 Winter Universiade. Its combination of high-altitude terrain, cutting-edge infrastructure, and dramatic mountain scenery make it an ideal choice for the Junior World Championships.
