Fog forces cancellation of Dual Moguls in Idre Fjäll
Dec 07, 2024·FreestyleThe much-anticipated first Dual Moguls event of the FIS Freestyle Moguls World Cup season, scheduled to take place in Idre Fjäll, Sweden, faced an unfortunate setback as dense fog enveloped the course and refused to clear. Despite tireless efforts by the organizing committee to mitigate the challenges posed by the weather, the conditions persisted, ultimately leaving the jury no choice but to cancel the competition.
The decision to call off the event was not made lightly. Safety and fairness are paramount in competitive skiing, and the visibility on the course was deemed insufficient to ensure both. Athletes, coaches, and fans alike were left disappointed, but the commitment to prioritizing the well-being of all involved was universally acknowledged as the right call.
While the organizers in Idre Fjäll successfully hosted a succesful single Moguls event yesterday, all eyes were on the thrilling head-to-head Dual Moguls showdown, which has long been a highlight of the World Cup calendar. However, Mother Nature had other plans, and even the best-laid efforts could not overcome the dense fog that blanketed the course.
Looking ahead, the FIS Freestyle Moguls World Cup tour will now take a brief break before resuming with the final competition of the December stretch in Bakuriani, Georgia. Athletes and fans can look forward to the action-packed event on December 20-21, where the tour will continue to showcase the world’s best moguls skiers.
Though the cancellation in Idre Fjäll is unfortunate, the focus now shifts to upcoming events, with everyone eager to see the season continue in full force.
