The International Olympic Committee has officially announced that the 2030 and 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be hosted by two iconic locations with rich histories in freestyle skiing and snowboarding: the French Alps and Salt Lake City. These regions, renowned for their vibrant winter sports cultures, are set to provide a spectacular stage for the next generation of athletes.

2030 Olympic Winter Games: French Alps - Briançonnais Cluster

The French Alps will host the XXVI Olympic Winter Games in 2030, with the Briançonnais Cluster designated for freestyle skiing and snowboarding events. This region is celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes and long-standing tradition in winter sports, making it a fitting home for the Olympics. The French Alps have cultivated a deep freestyle culture, attracting both amateurs and professionals with their challenging slopes and innovative snowparks.

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized France's commitment to excellence and innovation, highlighting the importance of ecological sustainability and inclusivity. The French Alps 2030 project aims to unite the northern and southern regions, creating a hub for winter sports that will bring significant social and economic benefits. The Games are poised to continue the legacy of the Albertville 1992 Winter Games, leveraging existing infrastructure and promoting sustainable practices.

2034 Olympic Winter Games: Salt Lake City - Wasatch Mountain Cluster

Salt Lake City, Utah, will host the XXVII Olympic Winter Games in 2034, continuing its legacy as a premier destination for winter sports. The Wasatch Mountain Cluster, including renowned venues such as Deer Valley, Park City Mountain, and Utah Olympic Park, will serve as the primary locations for freestyle skiing and snowboarding events. These venues have a storied history of hosting major competitions, including the 2002 Winter Olympics and numerous World Championships and World Cup events.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox highlighted the state's enthusiasm for the Olympic Movement, reflecting on the strong community and political support that helped secure the bid. The Big Air competition, a highlight of the Games, is set to take place in downtown Salt Lake City, blending the excitement of extreme sports with the vibrant atmosphere of the city.

A Commitment to Sustainability and Legacy

Both the French Alps and Salt Lake City have demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability and the legacy of the Winter Games. The 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps will focus on using renewable energy, optimizing transportation, and engaging local communities in environmental conservation efforts. Similarly, Salt Lake City's plan for the 2034 Games includes extensive measures to reduce waste, conserve water, and protect local wildlife habitats.

The upcoming Winter Games promise to be a celebration of freestyle skiing and snowboarding, honoring the rich traditions and cultural significance of these sports.
