After two intense days of practice on the moguls course at the 2025 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski World Championships in Engadin’s stunning St. Moritz, it was finally game time on Tuesday. The competition kicked off with an exhilarating round of Moguls qualifications, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling battle for the world titles.

With the World Championships format differing slightly from the usual World Cup structure, the qualifications were split into two rounds. The top 10 athletes from the first round secured a direct spot in the finals, while the remaining competitors had to battle it out in a second round for the remaining 10 spots, filling out the top-20 finalists.

Kauf dominates women’s qualifications

In the women’s event, it was Jaelin Kauf (USA) who set the pace, delivering a standout performance to finish ahead of Rino Yanagimoto (JPN) in second and Perrine Laffont (FRA) in third.

For Kauf, this event is the ultimate opportunity to cap off what has already been a phenomenal season. Having dominated the World Cup circuit with an impressive moguls hat-trick, sweeping all three Crystal Globes available this season, she now has her sights set on the World Championships crown. With two silver medals from the 2023 World Championships in Bakuriani, Kauf is hungry to take that extra step toward gold in Switzerland.

“Yeah, so last World Champs I took both silvers, and this year I’d love to build off those finishes and the momentum from this season. The sights are definitely set on those World Champs titles, so I’m going to try and put it all down to make that happen,” said Kauf.

Weather delays shake up men’s qualifications

The conditions in St. Moritz were picture-perfect for most of the day—until a late shift in weather put the competition on hold. With just six athletes remaining in the men’s first qualification round, thick clouds rolled in, shrouding the moguls course and forcing the event into a waiting game. After an extended delay, the first round finally wrapped up, but the second round was ultimately called off due to the late hour. As a result, the top 20 from Q1 automatically advanced to the finals.

Gravenfors takes top spot in men’s event

In the men’s event, Filip Gravenfors (SWE) stole the show, finishing ahead of moguls legend Mikael Kingsbury (CAN) in second and Nick Page (USA) in third.

For Gravenfors, the double gold medallist from the 2023 Junior World Championships, this is his chance to claim his first-ever World Championships medal at the elite level. Meanwhile, Kingsbury, the most decorated moguls skier in history, is on a mission to add yet another accolade to his legendary career—his 10th World Championships gold.

With the top-20 men and women now locked in, the stage is set for an electrifying finals showdown on Wednesday, kicking off at 11:30 CET. The competition will feature two rounds, with the top 8 skiers advancing to the super final, where the battle for World Championships gold will truly begin.

Stay tuned for all the action from St. Moritz, where the world’s best moguls skiers will leave it all on the course in pursuit of glory!
