Moguls and Dual Moguls shine at the 32nd FISU Winter World University Games
Jan 16, 2025·FreestyleThe 32nd FISU World University Games Winter in Bardonecchia showcased world-class talent in the moguls and dual moguls events, with athletes delivering exceptional performances over two days of competition.
The freestyle skiing program began with the moguls event. Kazakhstan’s Anastassiya Gorodko secured her first gold medal of the Games in the women’s final, showcasing precision and control throughout her runs.
“It’s my first University Games, and I’m so happy!” Gorodko said after her victory.
Japan’s Haruka Nakao earned the silver medal, while Germany’s Hanna Weese completed the podium with bronze.
In the men’s competition, Finland’s Akseli Ahvenainen clinched the gold medal with two strong, consistent runs. “I am really happy about my victory. I had two very close runs, but I had a good feeling going out of the start gate, so it was very good,” Ahvenainen shared.
Silver and bronze went to Japan’s Shugo Kanno and Canada’s Quinn Dawson, respectively.
The second day of competition featured the dual moguls, a format that increases the intensity as athletes compete head-to-head, pushing their limits in speed and style. Kazakhstan continued its dominance, earning three medals across the men’s and women’s events.
In the women’s dual moguls, Anastassiya Gorodko repeated her triumph from the previous day, claiming her second gold medal after an intense final against her teammate and close friend Ayaulym Amrenova, who secured silver. “I’m so happy, not only for me but for Ayaulym too—she’s my best friend,” Gorodko said. Japan’s Marin Ito took the bronze medal.
On the men’s side, Anton Bondarev of Kazakhstan captured gold after a commanding performance. Reflecting on his victory, Bondarev said, “Today I was strong and angry about losing yesterday; that’s why I was so fast.” Japan’s Shima Kawaoka took silver, with Jackson Edward Crockett of the United States earning bronze.
Kazakhstan’s athletes have been standout performers at the Games, demonstrating their strength and unity by earning five medals in two days.
