Developed with support from the Australian Government, the International Ice Hockey Federation, the International Skating Union, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, and other various sports bodies, the Safeguarding Practice Course is for everyone in sport wishing to develop a deeper understanding of safeguarding in practice.

This course is the second in the series and follows on from the introductory course Safeguarding Essentials

Safeguarding Practice explores the role that culture plays in creating a safe environment, how to recognise different forms of abuse, and why some groups are more vulnerable to abuse. It covers grooming, including how to recognise and prevent it, how to assess and manage risk, and the important role of policies and procedures in preventing and responding to abuse.

Finally, it explores the ways you might hear about concerns, how to decide how serious a safeguarding concern is, how to respond, and what your organisation can do now to strengthen safeguarding.

The 12-hour course is divided into eight sessions in which the key safeguarding practice ideas are explained and developed with interesting examples. Each session should take you about 60–100 minutes of study time. You have flexibility in how you organise and complete the course.

More information about the course and the enrollment process is available here.
