Development: Women's Ski Cross Training Camp Empowers the Next Generation
Dec 21, 2023·Inside FISFrom the 7th to the 14th of December, Idre Fjäll hosted a FIS Development Women’s Skicross Camp, welcoming 22 athletes and 10 coaches from nine different countries. The camp was coordinated by Ski Team Sweden Skicross, with the support of FIS and former professional skier Andrea Limbacher in the role of coach.
Idre Fjäll provided the ideal setting for a successful camp, fostering a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere where participants bonded as a team and felt comfortable pushing their boundaries. The diverse group, ranging from Europa Cup winners to novice skicross enthusiasts, embraced a supportive and collaborative environment. This solidarity was evident in the athletes' willingness to assist each other, leading to a noticeable improvement in skill level and confidence among everyone involved.
The camp program was rigorous, featuring morning gym sessions, double skiing sessions, followed by ski tuning, afternoon dry-land training, and a team meeting at night. This demanding schedule was designed to instill in each athlete the notion that hard training is not just necessary but also enjoyable. A special surprise during the camp was a video greeting from world-class skier Sandra Näslund, who delivered an inspiring message to the participants.
The camp concluded with a FIS Junior Race featuring 42 women on the start list. It was an amazing race that offered tight heats and some great skiing. Unfortunately, no one got to see any reindeer, but some of the team athletes experienced the Aurora Borealis when leaving Idre Fjäll early on Thursday morning.
FIS would like to express gratitude to all the participants for a great week, with the hope that we can do this again!
