The IOC, in collaboration with Deloitte, is supporting FIS’s climate action journey

The sustainability efforts of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) are now strengthened by Deloitte’s contribution.  

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has teamed up with Deloitte – a leading sustainability service provider and worldwide Olympic and Paralympic partner – to support a select number of international federations. FIS has embraced this opportunity, with the aim of enhancing the calculation of its carbon footprint, as well as developing a Carbon Action Plan. 

“When addressing carbon emissions and climate change, there is way too much at stake, we must be as rigorous as possible, guided by the best practices outlined by the Sports for Climate Action (S4CA) framework. This includes considering aspects such as boundaries, emission factors, data governance, and a robust approach to managing the integration of both primary and secondary data, including estimates,” says FIS Sustainability Director Susanna Sieff.

The consolidated calculation of carbon emissions of FIS’s events during the 2023/24 season will be finalized and published shortly before the start of the 2024/25 winter season. The collaboration with Deloitte will continue until November 2024 with a focus on co-creating FIS’s Carbon Action Plan. This initiative aims to identify key priority areas for action, with practical and feasible activities related to each opportunity area.
