FIS President Johan Eliasch
Johan Eliasch (GBR) was elected as the FIS President on 4th June 2021, becoming just the fifth person in the history of FIS in the role. He is a member of the International Olympic Committee, a member of the British Olympic Association, a member of the Association of International Winter Olympic Federations, and President of the Marc Hodler Foundation. He previously served as a director of the Special Olympics Great Britain and as an advisory board member of the British Olympic Association.
Eliasch spent many years in the sports manufacturing industry. In 1995, he acquired the global sporting goods company HEAD, which subsequently was built into one of the world’s leading private companies.
Beyond the sporting world, Eliasch has become a leading expert on solutions to issues caused by climate change. He served in the UK Government as the Special Representative of the Prime Minister on Deforestation and Clean Energy. In 2005, he created the Rainforest Trust which preserves 1,600 square kilometres of rainforest in the Amazon region, and in 2006, he co-founded Cool Earth to preserve and save rainforest. He chaired the Eliasch Review: Climate Change – Financing Global Forests, an independent review commissioned by the UK government in 2008, the 2021 HM Treasury net zero review technology and innovation advisory group, RUSI’s Food, Energy and Water security program, and was a member of the DEFRA Council for Sustainable Business. He has advised British Prime Ministers and is currently President of the Global Strategy Forum.
Eliasch has many business interests, which have allowed him to build a considerable knowledge base. Current roles include being Chairman of ECJ Holdings, the Saatchi Gallery, and London Films. He is a director of the Foundation for Renewable Energy and Environment. He is an advisory board member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Polar Regions and Brasilinvest.
In the past he has served on the boards of IMG and the British Olympic Association, the sports advisory board of Shimon Peres Peace Centre, the advisory boards of the World Peace Foundation, Société du Louvre, the Centre for Social Justice, and the British Olympic Association. He was chairman of Aman Resorts, Starr Managing Agents and of Investcorp Europe. He was a member of the Mayors of London, Jerusalem and Rome's International Business Advisory Councils. He was a trustee of the Kew Foundation and an advisory board member of the Stockholm Resilience Centre.
