The 2017/18 overall World Cup winner recovered from a 11th place in the Ski Jumping section to claim a seventh win this season and his first ever in Schonach. 1st round leader Jarl Magnus Riiber from Norway finished as runner-up with Austria's Bernhard Gruber in third place. The first major competition in Nordic combined was held in 1892 in Oslo at the first Holmenkollen Ski Festival, an event still held annually. The sport was included at the 1924 Winter Olympics, and has been on the programme ever since.
