Austrian World Champion Berni Gruber has returned to jumping training after an appendicitis and resulting surgery sidelined him shortly before the season opener in Ruka. Gruber joined the rest of the team for a training camp in Planica and Villach and made his first jump since November.

In the first two weeks after the surgery, Gruber had to refrain from any kind of physical activities but for the past month, the Falun 2015 champion has been back on cross-country skis. While getting his feeling back on the normal hill on Thursday and Friday, he returned to the large hill in Planica today.

“It’s a great feeling to be back on the hill and back with the team. The healing process went very well and I was able to train well on cross-country skis in the past few weeks. My first jumps on the large hill were quite promising, I can jump without pain and it looks like I haven’t lost my level on the jumping hill. Unfortunately, the weekend in Otepää had to be cancelled but if I am honest, this suits me quite well at the moment. This way, I have more time to train and to prepare for my re-start of the season 2017/18. I want to attack in Val di Fiemme.”, Gruber said.
