In the winter of 2016/17, the by then 33-year-old Kircheisen experienced a "renaissance" as a part of the almost unbeatable German team. Not only did Kircheisen win his 17th World Cup (out of 261 starts) and stood on the podium twice more but together with the German team, he finally won the coveted gold medal at the World Championships in Lahti. Kircheisen completed his fable week with an individual bronze medal in the normal hill event.
In his free time, Kircheisen likes to play soccer, ride a motorcycle, work on the computer and spend time with his dog Kalle, a Bolonka Zwetna. The policeman from Johanngeorgenstadt, Germany, characterizes himself as ambitious and optimistic but still likes to "Take it easy and keep cool" as his life motto says.
