The second event of the Universiade 2017 in Almaty went to Poland’s Adam Cieslar, the old and new Universiade Mass Start gold medallist. After the final jumping round, Cieslar had accumulated 242.2 points which gave him the victory over Germany’s Tobias Simon (240.4). Go Sonehara captured the third rank for Japan (233.2 p.).

The initial cross-country race was won by Cieslar’s compatriot Pawel Slowiok. A skiing time of 22:56.2 meant 120 points and a 0.3 lead on Cieslar who finished in 22:56.6. Viktor Pasichnyk from Ukraine finished the race on the third place (22:57.1).

The following two rounds of jumping brought the decision in favour of Cieslar who added 97.5 and 95.5 metres to his second place from the cross-country race. Tobias Simon made up some points with long jumps of 98.5 and 97 metres but the longest jump of the day and an improvement from rank 12 to rank five went to Japan’s Go Yamamoto (98.5 and 100 m). Race Winner Pawel Slowiok was pushed to the unlucky fourth position in the end.
