With the Continental Cup finals in Nizhny Tagil (RUS) a big season is coming to a close - for the first time for male and female Nordic Combined athletes.

In both categories, the fight for the overall victory is close: for the ladies, two athletes are sharing the lead at the moment: Stefaniya Nadymova (RUS) and Ayane Miyazaki (JPN). Among the men, the lead of Austria’s Thomas Jöbstl on the following two athletes, Martin Fritz (AUT) and Norway’s Sinde Ure Søtvik is just four and eight points.

Three men’s and two ladies’ events are on schedule from the 9th till the 11th of March and offer the opportunity to change the standings considerably.

14 ladies from five nations and 56 men from 12 nations, including the Russian World Cup team, are vying for the last COC points in a total of five individual events, including another Mass Start test and a 2 jump 15 km Final Individual Gundersen for the men.

With lots of snow on location and a chilly -10°C forecast, the organisers were able to prepare the hill and cross-country track well. The finals of the Russian Cup in Nordic Combined and cross-country races in the framework of the University Games of Russia were held right before the Continental Cup weekend, so that all sports facilities had their dress rehearsal already. In short, nothing short of a windy weekend should stand in the way of finding out who will go home with the coveted green COC leader bib and medals that go along with winning the Continental Cup in Nordic Combined.
